Soon to be Hunt

Well, folks, I'm engaged. Engaged to the most wonderful man on the face of the earth. His name is Corey Hunt, for those who don't know. We've been together for 2 years and 3ish months, and he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him on August 1st at about 9pm. Maybe I'll post "our story" later.

Our wedding is January 9th, and I couldn't be happier.

Pictures to come :)

Au revoir, retail

So, I started my new job today at DMH Mechanical Inc. as a part time office assistant. We are a mostly commercial HVAC (air conditioning and heating) company located in Olivehurst. I get a desk and a computer and I don't have to sell anything.

Sales is this disgusting world where everyone sucks the life out of each other. People are no longer human beings, they are "customers," or potential dollar signs. I was never fully myself in that environment. I'm the kind of gal who doesn't want to get involved in your business unless you want me to. If you just want to shop and not be bothered, more power to you. If you want help, sure! Retail forces you to tell the customer that you know what's best for them, even if it's not. You must open up this credit card today because you'll save money (even though you are in credit card debt up the wazoo). You NEED this makeup because it's the best deal you will ever find (until we come back in a few months, and ignoring the drawers full of the stuff you have at home). It forced me to be fake with people and I need to be surrounded by genuine-ity. I'm so excited to be done!

Now I just need another part time job for the afternoons so I can afford to live.

Sundays

I always get a headache on Sundays where I don't get to nap, which has happened to be almost every Sunday in my recent memory. How is that my body knows that it's Sunday, and that Sunday must be nap day?

I suppose I'm being strange by not writing my first blog post about how this is my new blog, and that I created it so that I could tell you all of the boring things of my life when I have nothing better to do... I'm not quite sure if I will actually use it to update you on my life, or just to catch the overflow of my mind's ponderings. But I suppose that it is my perogative, anyways.

I think my favorite memories of Sundays were those Jr. High-ish years where I would get to church at 7am for worship practice (for slides in those days), and during the 3 services either be in Sunday school, teaching Sunday school, sitting in the service, or eating chocolate chip bagels toasted with cream cheese at the bagel shop around the corner. Those were the "carefree" days of friends, when church was the most exciting time because you were assured to see them. And, of course always trying to finagle an afternoon get-together between friends. ANYTHING but having to sit at home in the afternoon while dad took a nap or watched golf. Of course, we had very few movies and no video games with which to occupy ourselves... I don't even remember what I did when I was bored those days. Email was just starting up, and instant messaging was one of the most giddy things I ever did. Then we always went to night church, without question, because that's what we did... but I distinctly remember always getting that lethargic headache right beforehand, and wishing I didn't have to go.

Now that I've been to college, and "grown up," church isn't as integrated to every activity of my life any longer. I'm comfortable admitting that I never found a church in LA that I wanted to call home, and I've had to work Sunday afternoons/evenings for at least the last 4 years, if not more. We'll see how my Sundays change in the next couple months.

What an interesting thing to think about... and all because of that familiar headache.
